Rain partially marred the opening of the Pageant of Empire in the Stadium at the British Empire Exhibition at Wembley. Nevertheless, the wonderful spectacle was carried out with commendable enthusiasm, as the majority of the performers were drenched to the skin. The programme consisted of part two, including " Early England," " South Africa," and " India." The performance was successful and continually received ovations from the huge attendance. Those present included Prince Arthur of Connaught, the Prime Minister, Mr. Ramsay Mac Donald, and the majority of the members of Cabinet. The exhibiting scheme, uiied proved effective. The pageant master-in-chief, Mr. Frank Lascelles, controlled the vast numbers of performers by means of a system of telephones and electric signs. Parts one and three of ; the' pageant are being performed to-day.
