MAN SWALLOWS POISON.
; WHILE DETECTIVES WAIT.
With detectives at the front and fcbfe back of his residence., John William Hamer, of Leichhardt, Sydney, swallowed poison and died immediately. Arriving at the; house, Detective Kennedy went to the front door and Detective Watkins walked to the back door. :
Detective Kennedy knocked at the door and Mrs. Hamer answered the knock. "Is your husband in, Mrs.: Hamer?" asked'the detective. " Yes; he is here," she replied. ; At that Detective Kennedy put his foot in the doorway to prevent the door from being ' closed. " Hamer appeared, bat he only moaned and stepped bade into his bedroom. He had taken cyanide of potassium, and, collapsing, died. The body was taken to the morgue.
