fBX TELEGRAPH.--OWN COBMSPONDENT.] . v . MORRINSVILLE, Saturday. The Morrinsville Borough Council at its meeting this week received advice from the State Advances Office that an Order-in-Council was being gazetted giving the council authority to pay up to 6 per cent, interest on tha roading loan of £21,000. The Mayor, Mr. G. Howie, reported that arrangements had bean made with the public trustee for a loan of £5000 and from the A.M.P. Society lor £7000 for road improvement works and baths construction. The outstanding rates for last year were reported to be £26. The Works 'Committee reported that arrangements had been made for a supply of metal for the .road improvement scheme, also that a building was being erected to house all road machinery. It was decided to commence the construction of the baths as early as possible. ' Advice has been received that the Government has made a substantial grant for the building of a manual training and cookery school at Morrinsville. Another evidence of the progress and settlement in the Morrinsville district is the opening of a new school at Starkey's Road, about four miles from Morrinsville, which was performed by Mr. F. W. Walters, chairman of the Piako County Council. About 12 months age, realising the need of a school, the settlers met and a committee was formed to further the project. Threo acrcii of land were given by Mr. G. B. Starkey and a grant of £300 was obtained. Within 12 months the school has been erected. The first tecaher is Miss A. Belfield.
