ROTHERHITHE TRAGEDY
SCHOOL TEACHERS' DEATHS. A BROKEN ENGAGEMENT. Australian and N2!. Cable Association. o(Rtecd. 9.55 p.m.) LONDON. July 24. An inquest concerning the Rotherhithc tragedy was opened to-day. Two tea«:hers, William Holmes, a widower, and George Kay, a married man, left the school in tihat suburb together. ; When they were out m the street Holmes shot Kay dead and then fatally shot himself. It was stated in isvidence that Holmes' engagement to Miss Frankise, also a school teacher, hajd" been broken ofl through a quarrel. Holmes never mentioned having had amy quarrel with Kay. , A letter jvas iound in the '.former's pocket, however, -from a solicitor, who demanded the payment of three guineas for service* rendered "in ro yourself and Kay." Mrs. Kay deposed] that Miss Frankist : occasionally visited their house.
