POT OF ROILING BTEW UPSET. SAD ACCIDENT AT, ORATlifc ; sad accident, resulting in the dbath on Thursday of a 14-month-old named John Mackwood, son of Mr, /and Mrs. William" J. R. MaOk^ood,' occurred at Oratia on Tuesday afternoon. Aqi inquest was held ,;by the coroner, Mrir/ F, K. Hunt, SIM., at the Magbtrate's Court yesterday afternoon? ];'• /: Coastable D. R. Smith, of Hendeisbn, stated/that the child was crawling albout the floor of its / residenw* when ' he apparently fell,into the fireplace|and upset a saucepan of boiling stew, sustaining severe scalds. Medical aid. was Summoned immediately. / The father of the child stated tha'b he was absent from bis home at tjie 'time of the adcideut, and that Ws; wifer|was too ill;. to attend the inquest. Dr; & R. OlosSj of New Lytin. stated that the infant/ was severely aoalded on the of the' head, and: face,land on the righti arm. He died r '&i 7.30 on ThnrsQay from convulsions, the cause of death being shoclci following scilds.
