'NOTES AND COMMENTS. Three one-design boats of the famous Star class will probably be seen afloat on the Waitemata next season. Mr. Col. Wild has received an order to build one for Mr. E. Wood, of Devonport; Mr. E. Swinnerton has already made a '.start on oue> and Mr. R. Mouat will most likoly commence building operations shortly. These boats Will be 22ft..'Bin. overall, 16ft. c.w.1., arid will; have a beam of 6ft.:Bm. They will have ho cabin, but will have a 6ft. 6in; water-tight cockpit amidship, and will carry a crew of two. The keel of this' particular ■ type of boat j will be cast-iron fend bulbed, Weighing j 8001b. The design of the hull is almost j square bilge, with a camber. Tho ''Star";| is the largest one-design class in tho j world, there being over 100 boats in America alone. Australia has several, and was represented in America last year in races for tho c'lass. • A resident of Staihley Bay, who has had considerable yachting experience in England, has commenced work on a 28ft. x 9ft. V-bottom keel yacht. She will have two tons of lead on the keel, and Will ha,ve a 40ft. mast. She will, have a very roomy cabin, it being the intention of her owner to do a lot of cruising in her. She will be Bermudian rigged. ; t v The members of the Victoria Cruismfi Club tendered a complimentary smoke concert to their vice-patron, Mr. Eliot, R. Davis, during the week. Commodore T. L. Thompson presided, and in proposing the toast of " Our Vice-Patron "he referred to the many jgood turns Mr. Davis and his brother Ernest had dona for the Victoria Club. He ventured to say that wllhofti,their help the <lub would not be' in the proud position it was to-day. (Applause.) Retunmg thanks, Mr. Davis gave some of his -irly yachting experiences. The toast of tha visitors were responded to by Messrs C. J. Ceilings (Ponsonby Club], C. Dyson (Point Chevalier), Mr. W. A. Wdhinson (Akarana , and A. Thompson (Auckland City Council). A presentation of a handsome painted cushion was made by Mr. Davis~to Commodore Thompson and a sot> of blocks to the club=houso captain, Mr. W. Hawkes.. ■ ' .
