TANKS FOR OIL FUEL.
DISCUSSION IN DUNEDIN. The suggestion that on account of the increasing use of oil fuel at sea provision ought to be made for bulk oil tanks at Port Chalmers or Dunedin was conveyed in a letter received by the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce from the Manufacturers' Association, on Monday evening. Members of the association ifelt that if no such provision were made in the near future the results to their port would be most serious. Overseas vessels coming to New Zealand would usually ! require to replenish their oil supplies at the first port of call to enable them to work the coast, while departing vessels would similarly require to take in supplies at their 'final port. -" It was dedded to communicate with.the oil concerns asking if they were considering the erection of oil tanks at Dunedin or Port Chalmers, and inform them that the Otago Harbour Board was prepared to offer facilities for a site.
