SOUTH AFRICAN VETERANS.
ASSOCIATION'S ACTIVITIES. THE MATTER OF FENSIONS. The annual meeting of the South African War Veterans' Association was held last evening, Major E. G. Fraser presiding over a fair attendance. Regret was expressed in. the report of the executive committee at the death of several members during the past year, including one of the founders of the association, Mr. P. S. Ussher, who held the position of vice-president and treasurer. The membership had been greatlv increased during the year. The field cornet scheme had been inaugurated on a small scale, _ and it was hoped__ to develop it as suitable representatives were found in the various districts. * The following officers were elected:— President, Major E. G. Fraser (reelected); vice-presidents, Messrs. A. G. Bertram and W. Gr, Camp; executive. Major T. P. Halpin, Messrs. C. J. Lit'cie, W. G. Marks, C. Johnson. E. H. Cassim, W. G. Ashmon, W. 'Partridge, J. Orombie, and W. J, King; hon. secretary, Mr. J. F. Jackson; hon. treasurer, Mr. A. G. Bertram; hon. auditor, Mr. V. Dunn. Major E. G. Fraser was appointed delegate to the South African War Veterans' Conference to be held in Wellington on July 31. Two remits to the conference were drafted. The first urged that South African veterans should be granted a military pension at the age of 60 or on disability before that age. Thei second remit was to the effect that representations be made to the Prime Minister for similar privileges 1 to those granted to members of the. N.Z.E.F. in the matter of the purchase of homes and land for settlement. fr
