SUIT BY THE CROWN. DAMAGES AND INJUNCTION. LEADING COUNSEL RETAINED. I'BY TELEGHAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.! CHKISTCHUKCH. Wednesday, The action which is being brought by the Crown against several flourmillinß companies, claiming from each a sum of £500 for alleged breach of the Commercial Trusts Act, will, it is stated, be heard at a sitting of the Supreme Court at Dunedin next month. Mr. F. Jj. Adams, Crown Prosecutor at Dunedin, will have charge of the: Crown's case. Messrs. M. Myers and C. P. Skerrett (Wellington) and S. Solomon (Dunedin) will appear as counsel for defendants. Several other prominent members of the New Zealand Bar will probably also take part.
The firms against whom the Crowe has issued writs are the Crown Milling Company, Dunedin, Fleming and Co., Invercargill, Wood Bros., Christchurch, the Atlas Roller Mills, Timaru, and Distributors, Ltd. The Crown will also apply for an injunction to restrain the alleged breach of statute.
The allegation is that Distributors, Ltd., to. which each of the companies is connected, lias acquired a practical monopoly of the supply of flour throughout the greater part of New Zealand and that the monopoly is contrary to the public interest and therefore a breach of the Act.
