HOCKEY TOURNAMENT.

WHITE HORSE CUP MATCHES. RODNEY BEAT FRANKLIN. PIAKO AND WHANGAREI DRAW. The White Horse Cnp hockey tournament was continued yesterday at the Remuera grounds. Waipa had a fairlyeasy win over Thames, and Piako and Whangarei played a drawn game. Rodney proved too good for Franklin. The results were: Rodney, 3, beat Frinklin, 0. Piako, 1, drew with Whangarei, 1. Waipa, 5, beat Thames, 0. The positions of tha teams are: Waipa, 6 points; Rodney, 4; Franklin, 3; Whangarei, 3; Piako, 2; Thames, 0. Game of Lost Chances. Rodney's first scoring chance in the match with Franklin was lost through bunching in the circle. Soon afterwards the ball came out to Croker on the circle .edge. He took a hot shot, and the ball went in from the goalkeeper's pads. Another Rodney attack failed badly at the circle, and the ball went to midfield. The Rodney forwards were having more of the play, while the Franklin forwards did not turn their opportunities to advantage, several good openings being wasted through too hard hitting or infringements, Rodney broke through again and Martin scored just before the end of the spell. On resuming, Franklin forwards were given further scoring chances, but lack of finish spoiled their work. A Rodney forward later had an easy shot, which went wide. Franklin were hotly pressed, but the goalkeeper saved. The match, indeed, was characterised by lost chanoes. Shortly before time, Hood scored Rodney's third goaL Rodney thoroughly deserved their win, as their team work was superior throughout. Franklin lacked cohesion, and the forwards failed at the critical moments. A Close Struggle. The Whangarei-Piako game opened with attacks by each aide. A couple of shots by Whangarei just missed, while Piako were also dangerous .on several occasions, A fast pace was set, and both back divisions were kept busy. Neither forward line could pierce the defence, and half-time came with no score. On resuming, the game continued to be of a similar character, though Whangarei almost scored from close work. Finally, after even field play, Piako attacked determinedly, and Harvey scored. Whangarei retaliated and a little later Hamilton equalised the scores. . Time was called a minute or two afterwards. Waipa Win Again. Waipa opened the game with Thames in convincing style, and a couple of goals, scored by Spiers and Tarr, were iciiiy soured. Inames livened up and had their opponents on the defensive for a considerable time. The Thames weakness, however, was in the forwards, who did not combine in a satisfactory fashion. Consequently, their backs were called on to defend for the greater portion of the time. Thames played a good uphill game, but Waipa were too good, and added three more goals, scored by Finch and Civil (2). LADIES' PROVINICAL CUP. AUCKLAND BEAT WHANGAREI. The matches for the Ladies' Provincial Cup were continued yesterday at Remuera, when some exciting games were played. Auckland A beat Whangarei after a great struggle. At one stage of the game, Whangarei were leading 2 goals to 1, but Auckland rallied and added four more goals to Whangarei's one.
