DELAY TO A STEAMER.
MEN REFUSE TO SIGN ON.
QUESTION OF HOME PORTS.
CONCESSION UNDER PROTEST.
The refusal of Ae crew of the Union Company's steamer Kaituna to sign on fresh articles delayed the vessel at ■•Auckland for some hours last night. The Kaituna, which arrived from Fort Stephens on Sunday morning to discharge a part cargo of timber, was timed to sail for Napier at 5 p.m. yesterday to discharge the remainder.
While at Auckland the articles were renewed, but the men refused to sign on the new ones, asi they objected to the clause under the new award referring to home ports. They demanded that a clause be inserted in the articles whereby they could claim to be paid off at any port, and be given a free passage to any port they nominated. In order to g*t the vessel away the company granted the men's demand under protest. The d'ispute being adjusted provisionally, to the satisfaction of the men, they were signed on at 5.30 p.m., but tha vessel did not get away until a late hour.
