I Mrs. Robert Laidlaw<, Heme Bay, gave j an "At Home* on Thursday, June 26, in 1 tho interests of the Y.W.GA. Tb.e president of the association, Mm. G. H. "Wilson spoke of the Y.W.OA. as a worldwide movement, with its headquarters in London and the various countries of the world linked together through their national headquarters. Mrs. Wilson then introduced Miss Jean Stevenson, actinggeneral secretary, who sketched the development of the association iron* the time of its inception when girls first began to leave theLf homes arid it, was found necessary that they should be helped in their first ventures. Among the many guests present were Mesdames F. G. FarrelL W. R. MeKean, Jeavons, Potrter, Thomas, Robertson, J. C. Hardley, Edgar, Wildcrspin, Field, G Hardley, A. G. IVankham, 0. Bennett, H. G. Fountain,, Dickinson, Lucena, Sorters, McKinney, Mobberley, Boyce, Guthrie, Vetners, Wood, Misses G. Fountain, C. Conway, N. Bennett, Robertson. Despite the inclemency of the weather the "At Home" given by Mrs. W. R. Fee, of Owen's Road, Epsom, on Tuesday June 24, proved a most enjoyable and profitable function. Miss Mavis Paterson contributed two solos which,added greatly to the guests' pleasure. Mrs. M. McLeod on behalf of Mrs. Fee and the Mt. Eden ladies present welcomed Mrs. G. H. Wilson and Miss Jean Stevenson, who spoke of the work of the Y.W.C.A., for the promotion of which the afternoon was given. As a result of tho interest created by the accounts of the wonderful way in which the association has met the needs of girls throughout tho world; many of j tho ladies present signified their desire to become members of the association.^ Miss HOI of Russell Crescent, EHershe, who is a member of the Board of Directors of the Y.W.C.A., gave many of her friends an opportunity to hear more of the work of. tho association on Wednesday July 1. Miss Hill received her guests in the drawing-room, which was prettily decorated with .pale pink and white roses, and introduced Mrs. G. H. Wilson and Miss Jean Stevenson. MrsWilson spoke of' the incalculable help the association can be to girls and women travelling and making their first contacts in a new country. Miss Stevenson laid emphasis on how tho work of the association has developed in differentcities along certain lines according to the particular need of that city. Musical items and afternoon tea contributed to the enjoyment of the guests among whom were Mesdames Dickinson, Davis, Cromwell, Hockson, N. Ponntney, Ferguson, Mather, Cowan. Plair, E.
