EWER BOARD DISPUTE.
THE MANGAWARA BODY. EX-MEMBERS SUPPORTED. fBT XBLBGBAPH, OWN COBKESPONDEKT,] HAMILTON, Tuesday. A' sequel to the recent proceedings in the Magistrate's Court, when certain members of the Mangawara River Board were convicted of breaches of the River Drainage Act and their seats were ordered to be vacated, took place at Orini on Saturday, when a largely-attended meeting of settlerß discussed the position. The ex-members of the board, Messrs. E. 0, Pilkington, J. Law, F. Herbert and P. R. Cattky, described what had led to the Court proceedings and were given a sympathetic hearing. They intimated their intention of standing for office again. The following resolution was carried with acclamation: "That no further legal expenses be incurred, but that the 125 ratepayers who signed the petition praying for the abolition of the board and for the appointment of the commission be asked to contribute £2 2s each to liquidate the costs of the recent Court action and the costs of the commission."
The call for subscriptions has been liberally responded to, and already the members' fines and expenses havo bsen paid.
