WOMEN'S DEAL IN CATTLE
QUESTION OF OWNERSHIP. HUSBAND'S SUCCESSFUL CLAIM. Four cows and a bull, all Jerseys, were the subject of a claim made by William James Inglis (Mr. Mackay), farmer, against Mrs. Mabel E. Harrison, both of Albany, at the Magistrate's Court before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., yesterday. Plaintiff sought possession of the cattle or £20, their estimated value, and also £10 general damages. Mr. Mackay stated that the cattle belonged to plaintiff, who had recently separated from his wife, and that the latter had sold them to defendant, who vas ra/w grazing them on her property. Defendant, who conducted her r.vm case, stated that she had bought the cattle from Mrs. Inglis, and had later ire-sold them to her. Mrs. Inglis had continued to graze the cattle on defendant' 3 property. Mr. Hunt (to defendant): _ Well, yon have nothing further to do with the matter.
Defendant declared that she bad, and endeavoured to convince Mr. Hunt of the way in which she alleged plaintiff had treated his wife.
Mr. Hunt: You have no right to interfere between husband and wife; if she has a grievance she can bring it before the Court. You must return the cattle within 48 hcjurs or pay plaintiff £15 for them.
Defendant: »Women are the backbone of the country and work day and night for men; yet whei» they come to this Court they have no standing. Mr. Hunt: That will do; yon go and talk outside.
Mr. Mackay: May we have general damages Your Worship ? Mr. Hunt: You hiwe had the cattle fed for nothing j what more do you want ?
