RESTRICTION ON LORRIES.
ROADS AND HEAVY TRAFFIC A MATTER FOR PARLIAMENT. [BY TELEGjRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON. Tuesday. The amelioration sought in (regard to the license fees of lorries and heavy {.raffle restrictions were explained to the Waipa County Council yesterday by a deputation from the Waikato Carriers' Association. While m»ch merit was seen in the arguments of the deputation, the council held that the problem was one which the Government must deal with if the most satisfactory results were to be achieved. It was made clear to the deputation that the council had no desire to unduly embarrass the carriers' operations, but the interests, of the.county and the ratepayers had to be safeguarded. Any alteration of the law in regard to one fee instead of a separate fee for each county should be sought by representations to the Government as the council had been _ advised that there was no provision for it in the law at present. It was recognised, however, that legal opinion varied: in regard to the matter.
