The heat was still oppressive when tho Marathon was started. After running one and a half laps,in the Stadium the competitors commenced the weary grind. Stenroos took tho lead at the half-way mark. The Frenchman Verger made a plucky challenge, but dropped from sheer exhaustion. After that Stenroos was not troubled. He won with six minutes to spare.

Trumpet notes announced the appearance of Stenroos at the end of the race, and he finished amid excitement. Ho was apparently riot tired, for after he had been photographed he raced across the ground to the dressing room. Finland has won every long-distance event at the meeting. The discus throwing event was won by Houser (America) with a throw of 46,15 metres, an Olympic record. Nittyma (Finland) threw 44.95 metres for second place, and Lieb (America) was fourth with a throw of 44.84 metres. In the 3000 metres teams race the final resulted: Nurmi, 1; Ritola, 2; MacDonald (Britain), 3. Time Bm. 325., an Olympic record. In.the 1600 metres relay race the result was 4 America, 1; Sweden, 2; Britain, 3. Time 3m. 16s, a world's record.
