MOTOR IN COLLISION.
STRIKES TRAMWAY POLE.
i DRIVER CUT BY BROKEN GLASS.
A motor-car driven by Mr. Boyd McCartney, of Omahu Road, Remuera, coldided with the pole carrying the overhead tramway cable on Parnell Road at the entrance to Domain Drive at about 7.30 p-m. yesterday. The car, an Essex, was going along Parnell Road from the direction of the"" city, and the driver attempted to pass another car running in the same direction. The other car swung in to enter Domain Drive, and to avoid a
sollision with it Mr. McCartney at-
tempted to swerve across the road. He, however, failed to clear the pole, which was struck by the left-hand wheel and mud-guard. The plate-glass wind-screen was broken to fragments, but, strangely enough, both the headlights remained intact, and were burning until switched off some time after the accident.
The two occupants of the car had a narrow escape from "serious injury, the only personal injury being sustained by Mr. McCartney, who received a out on the face from a fragment of the windscreen. Passing motorists and others carried the wrecked machine to the kerbing. The injured man was able to go to the residence of Dr. E. D. Aubini where ha received medical attention, and later proceeded to his home.-
The car was considerably damaged, the left-hand mudguard being wrenched off, and the wheel and axle on the same side bent.
