fBX TELEGRAPH.—OWX CORRESPONDENT. . TAURANGA, Saturday.

At the monthly m'eeting of the Tauranga County Council yesterday, a deputation representing ratepayers in the Otumoetai special rating area, urged that the resolution asking for a commission to cite the borough of Tauranga for one-third of the cost of the proposed Waikareao Bridge and embankment be rescinded. The deputation stated that the public trustee had agreed to advance the money for the work and that a certain amount of the loan had already been lifted by the council. They asked the council to proceed with tho work , and if it were gone on with the borough could be cited for maintenance.

Two communications signed by over 40 ratepayers of Waimapu riding were read by the chairman, thanking the council for its action in endeavouring to make the borough pay a portion of the cost and upkeep of Waikareao Road and Bridge. A motion to rescind the resolution as asked by the deputation was lost. Mr. J.. Hume then gave notice of, motion to rescind the resolution at the next meeting of the council. It was decided that the attention of the Public Works Department be drawn to tho necessity of erecting a railway platform and shelter-shed at To Maunga Junction.

Mr. Lally gave notice of motion that in the opinion of this council the present representation on Tauranga Harbour Board so far as it affects this county is inequitable, in so much as it gives to the constituent districts of Waimapu, Te Puna and Katilcati, two representatives on a total capital valuation of £677,840, while it gives to the constituent districts of Maketu and Te Puke and the town of Te Puke, only two representatives on a basis of a total capital valuation of £1,274,170, and that strong representations be made immediately to the Government to remedy this state of affairs. A motion was passed that in the opinion of the council financial assistance toward , the development of Muir's Gold Reefs would be in the best interests of the county, and the made that request for further financial assistance from the Government toward the development of thin important mine should receive earnest consideration.

Mr. Mundt urged that the council should raise loans of £45,000, and gave notice of motion bearing on the matter. A petition signed by 37 owners or occupiers of lands on number one and number two roads, Te Puke, prayed that certain lands be declared a water race district in accordance with the provisions of the Water Supply Act. Another petition was received from six settlers objecting to the inclusion of their properties within the proposed rating a,rea. The council decided to hold a special meeting to deal with the matter.

Mr. J. Hume pointed out that the Tau-ranga-Waihi road had not been included in the gazetted main highways. The council unanimously adopted a motion that the Minister for Public Works be asked to have the main road from the borough of Tauranga to the' Ohinemcri county boundary a, main highway, with the exception that the followings links be declared Government roads: —From Waipapa, River to Wainui Rivmy and from Tuapiro River to Ohinemjiri county boundary; also, that. Mr. H. Poland, M.P., and Mr. C. E. Macmillan, M.P., be asked to support the request. It was also decided to ask the Number 3, District Highways Council to support the resolution. , Messrs. Hodge and Keys, solicitors, Te Puke, advised that the .Waiariki District Maori Land Board is enforcing regulation number 27, relating to Maori land boards. This provides, practically that before any deed of alienation will be finally delivered by the board to the party concerned, that party must satisfy the board that all outstanding rates are paid.
