THE HAURAKI PLAINS.
SETTLING DOWN OP PEAT.
Owing to the settling down of the peat on the sections fronting Ngarua Road, on the liauraki Plains,. innumerable stumps arc now showing. Many buildings have settled down unevenly, and some have had the floors broken by stumps. Even on sections where there is still a good depth of peat, the tramping around the back doors of residences has caused consolidation, making the buildings lean backwards. Similar experiences hava been recorded ororaid Tahuna.
