EASCISTI AND THE PRESS.
NEW ITALIAN CONTROL. Times. LONDON. July 11. The Rome correspondent of the Times says that widespread indignation has been aroused by the enforcement of a decree regulating the press. This was passed last year, but had been held in abeyance. The correspondent states that the real object of the decree is undoubtedly to prevent hostile criticism of the Fascist regime. The newspapers complain that the new regulation places in the hand of provincial prefects a weapon whiich may lead to political persecution, and threatens not only the liberty, but the very existence, of the press.
