Lady Charlotte Rous, daughter of H.E. the. Governor of Victoria (Earl Stradbrooke), arrived in Wellington by the Moeraki from Melbourne last week, en route to England by the Rotorua. There arrived by the Moeraki in Wellington last week, Colonel (Mrs.) McLeod, who will take over the women's social work for the Salvation Army in Wellington. Colonel McLeod comes from Melbourne.

Tasmania has recently appointed a, number of women to be justices of the peace. These include: Mrs. Frances M. Edwards. of Hobart, a keen worker in local .health affairs; Mrs. Ida Tynan and Mrs. E. L. Smith, of Launceston; and Mrs. Eliza Burnell, of Burnie, who , was prominent in country Labour circles for years.

The Ever-Ready Committee of the Victoria League gave an afternoon tea m their-room's in honour of Mrs. Lind Mitchell, chairwoman of the committee, who has been on a holiday visit to Australia. , There was a large number of members ' present. Mrs. Edgar, acting-chairwoman of the committee, welcomed Mrs- Mitchell and presented her with a bouquet of violets, for which, Mrs. Mitchell expressed her thanks.

Her Excellency the Countess of Stradbrooke, Vicereine at the Australian Federal Government House, was recently appointed a " Lady of Grace of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem," under the sign manual of His Majesty the King, for her activities during the Great War in connection with the Order of St. John and the British Red Cross Society. Lady : Stradbrooke is an ardent advocate for the extension of the Bush Nursing Association of Australia.

A number of extracts from letters' show ' the appreciation given for the benefits- of the fund to a considerable number of M-omen, who are temporarily incapacitated, or beyond the age of such strenuous work as nursing. ; Over £100 more than, the previous year was disbursed during last year, ' and further claims are «till being forwarded to the committee. "But," says the report, "notwithstanding the increased- expenditure, we have' been able to add £250 to our investment account, which now amounts to £19,500 (face value),' all in New Zealand securities, bearing interest at 5i per cent. Also a rather larger sum is carried forward than was the case to the last balance. The officers of -the central committee include Sir H. Lindo Ferguson, C.M.G., Sir George Fenwick, and Dr. W. Young, Wellington, the two latter being the vice-presidents. The committee consists' of' Miss H." McLean and the Hon. Mr. Justice McGregor .(Wellington). Mrs. Ethel A.
