A young man, whose name the magistrate, Mr. R. -W. Tate, ordered to be suppressed, appeared this morning charged with being , drunk while in charge of a horse, also with riding in a furious and negligent manner... The accused pleaded guilty to the first charge, but not guilty to the second.' ;

Senior-Sergeant : Hollis said that 'at about 7.15 o'clock last evening the accused and a companion, both riding horses, were galloping up Maunu Road in the direction of the hospital. A motorvan was coming in the opposite direction, and accused, who was on his wrong side, tried to gallop over the van and caused damage to the cxenfc of £2 8s 9d. Constable Burnett, who was going ;up Maunu Road, hastened to the scene, and found the accused lying on the road. His companion had continued on. The accused's horse had galloped straight into the van and had sustained some injury. Neither of the men had control over his horse.
