"DAISY WEEK" EVENTS.

PROGRAMME OPENS TO-DAY.

THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION.

FIRST AUCKLAND MEETING.

ADDRESSES BY EXPERTS.

■• "Dairy Week," which commences in Auckland this morning will be the largest function of its kind ever held in the province. Dairy interests in every part of the Dominion, and especially the North Islar.'* will be represented i The number of delegates will be between 400 and 500. Chief interest attaches: to the annual meeting of the National Dairy Association of New Zealand, Ltd., . which will be held to-morrow morning. or the first time in its 30 years' history the association meets in - Auckland and away from ■ Palmerston North. This is but due acknowledgement of the premier status Auckland has achieved in the country's dairy industry and recognition of the importance of the Winter Show in connection with which the various conferences of the week are be-in? held.

. The scope of the National Dairy Association includes" the whole of the North Island and the southern provinces of Nelson and Marlborough. Its members include stock and station agents, financial firms, importers and exporters, farmers' and factory organisations, 62 dairy companies in the Auckland province (including the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company), 78 in Taranaki, 99 in Wellington and* South, and 27 in Hawke's and Poverty Bays. The remaining dairying interests of the Dominion, combined . in the South Island Dairy Association, will be, represented at the National Association's meeting.

North Auckland Dairying. The week opens this morning with the meeting of the eleventh annual North Anoi.-land Dairy Conference at the Chamber of Commerce, under the chairmanship of Mr. A. Morton. Subjects to be. considered will be the reduction of freezing and railage charges, dairy research, and pig production and distribution. Of considerable interest to companies, supnliers and commercial interests is a remit from the Bay of Islands advocating " that in view of the large amount of extra clerical work involved in dairy companies' offices, caused ; by .business peonle obtaining orders on supnliers' cheques, the Government be asked to bring in air amendment exempting cooperative dairy companies from the provisions, of the main Act, and thus allow them to carry on their legitimate business without being made a . debt-collecting agency for the benefit of outside people.". The annual meeting of '.the National Association will occupy morning and afternoon sessions at the Scots Hall .to-mar-row. The report shows a credit-balance of £525 and a _ total of 298 members. It states that owing to the closing of the London office of the association, and the saving in annual cost which naturally followed, and also' as a result of the arrangement entered into with the Dairy Export Control Board to remunerate the association for the work done by it in connection with the shipping of produce, the necessity for- maintaining the present rate of annual subscription did not now exist. The executive was of opinion that it would be in the best interests of the association that little more than a nominal sum should in future be collected. Consequent on any alteration as suggested being brought into force, an alteration in the voting power would necessarily take place. Notice of. motion dealing with this would come before the conference for discussion. ■' ; ' >:-.''V '■ ■ . -■ ' "
