FIRST ROYAL SHOW.

PRIZE-LIST ALLOCATED.

SEVERAL TROPHIES DONATED.

A meeting of the council of the Royal Agricultural Society _ was held in Wellington last week. The schedule of royal classes, together with its accompanying prize-list,-was fully discussed. The prizelist totalled £1366, allocated as follows: Horses (seven ribbons and two medals), first prices, £103; second prizes, £59; third prizes, £29 total, £191. Beef cattle (six ribbons and six medals), £90, £54, £36; total, £180. Dairy cattle, five breeds (10 ribbons and 10 medals), £185, £110, £70; total, £365. Sheep, 10 breeds (20 medals), £250, £150, £50; total, £450. Pigs, four breeds (eight medals), £100, £50, £20; total, £180. The secretary reported that the various breeders' associations throughout the Dominion had. promsied £321 worth of cups, and £238 in cash. Through the instrumentality of Mr. H. B. . Stuckey, of Danmvirke, the Southdown Society of England had offered a 20-guinea challenge cup for the best Southdown ram, and a 10-guinea cup for the best New Zealand bred Southdown ram. Mr. Stuckey was also promised a 25-guinea challenge cup by the Hereford Herd Book Society of England for the best Hereford bull bred in New Zealand. The New Zealand Pigbreeders' Association offered a 20-guinea " Empire Challenge Cup " for competition among Berkshire breeders. The Auckland A. and P. Association applied for the Royal Show of 1926, while Southland applied for the 1927 show. _ It was decided to inform both associations that their applications would be considered when the venues for those years were under consideration.

A committee consisting of Messrs. Perry (president), McLean, - Stuckey, Hunt and Lethbridge was appointed to examine the lists of judges recommended _ by the various breeders'- associations and' to make recommendations to the next meeting of the council. The secretarywas instructed to communicate with Messrs. W. G. Carter, Bowral, N.S.W., regarding the judging or the Shorthorns, and Mr. Olliver, of Launceston, Tasmania, who is a noted Ayrshire judge. Mr. K. W. Dalrymple submitted his resignation as vice-'arenident of the council, and Mr. J. A'. Nash, M.P., was appointed to fill the vacancy. Mr. J. C. Begg, Dunedin, also resigned as a member of the council. According to the rules of the society half the members have to retire annually, and as the result of a ballot the following members retire Messrs. W. D. Hunt, J. D. Hall, R. D. D. McLean. W: D. Pike, and H. B. Stuckey. All these are eligible for reelection.
