May 18. • Senator (Magnus/ Johnson, of Minnesota, is apprehensive of the effects of the continued importation ; of foreign butter into .the United States. He has thereintroduced a resolution into : the Senate requesting ;> the Tariff .1 Commission to inquire as the production :of butter in this country and abroad with a view of increasing the : duty ,on butter imports. / Mr. Johnson said the importations of butter in January ; and February aggregated 9.600,000 ( lb., causing a■~ rapid decline in the price, which is now ! little, if anything, above the cost of production.
