VEGETABLES FOR BEAUTY.
If a woman desires a clear, smooth' complexion, with just that touch of colouring which gives perfection, the way lies not through . creams, . but through watercress and carrots . . *
: Watercress is inexpensive and available all the year round, and it is the best stuff for • faces. It contains sulphury which purifies the blood, and iron, which enriches it .and gives it- tike real red colour. It is impossible to have a clear complexion with "muddy" blood. The pale, anaamic complexion ;. is due . to: - lack of iron,, - and although pills and tonics may be taken to supply the deficiency, they cannot beat watercress. "
The only rival to i the watercress is spinach, which contains •an enormous amount. of iron. But this, vegetable is not so easily obtained, and requires careful'cooking. Watercress has only to be bought, t washed and eaten. Then, as to colouring, there is nothing fetter than carrots, and they, too, are available all the year round. They give that becoming flush" to the skin which—well, it's always .there, because, ' unlike rouge or powder, it is inside and not outside. Six carrots, eaten raw or steamed every other day, and a bundle of watercress on the. non-carrot day, should make any skin clear and beautiful. - And, by- the way, if you are a brunette, and desire to have that silky complexion—it does not suit the fair-skinned—then eat onions. If you want the seen" side of your face to be beautiful, make it so from the inside.
