The State ball at Buckingham Palace last night, in honour of the King and Queen of Rumania, was the most brilliant Court function since pre-war days. The first guests arrived in broad daylight. After that a continuous stream of guests filled the State apartments. The Palace was lavishly decorated with masses of rambler roses and blue hydrangias.

The scene in the ballroom was made dazzling by the display of colour and jewels. When the Royal procession, headed by the two Kings and Queens, entered, Their Majesties immediately led a stately quadrille d'honneur, with whic'j State balls always open.

Afterwards the band played a waltz tune and dancers filled the floor. Queen Mary wore a gown of shot silver and pink tissue, heavily embroidered in diamente and pearls, with a crown of diamonds, in which were set the lesser stars of Africa cut from the famous Cullinan diamond. '

King George 'and Queen Mary, accompanied by King Ferdinand and Queen Marie of Rumania, privately visited the Empire Exhibition at Wembley to-day. They were favoured by the warmest and most sunny day since the Exhibition opened. The Royal tour included the palaces of engineering and industry, and the pavilions of India, Burma, Ceylon. Hongkong, British Guiana, ~ West Indies,, Newfoundland and Fiji. -.

The Prince of Wales will attend the opening of the Olympiad at Paris.

The Kings Lynn Town Council, exercising its historic privilege as the- King's 'Borough, has appointed Prince Henry its Lord High Steward. The Prince will thereby virtually become the borough's representative in the House of Lords I when he is raised to the Peerage.
