LATEST DEVELOPMENTS. RACE IN ARMAMENTS. A. and N.2. LONDON. May 14. The Daily Mail describes a new giant aero engine. It has novel wing devices and the development in metal construction will allow of the machines being designed' in a size hitherto impossible. The invention will turn a new page in the history'of aviation.
Other modern wonders include bombers with multi-cr/gined power plants (practically eliminating the risks of forced landings). These are able to fly at such tremendous speed that defence becomes daily more difficult. .
Another variety single-seater fighter is .equipped with huge engines, enabling it to rise up almost vertically, and attain vast heights with a rapidity formerly considered impossible. A new armament race has begun between the nations to develop immense long-range planes capable of striking blows at distant bases.
Experiments are proceeding in refuelling in flight from winged tankers, with a view to increasing the range of flight.
