WHANGAREI. Thursday. So far the attendance at the Whangarei A. and P. Society's Winter Show has been 50 per cent, more -than- it Was during the corresponding period last year. It is estimated that ; over 3500 people have passed through the building. Great interest centred-in the ridings courts competition. Maunu won with 411£ points, taking the shield. The Kauri and Hikurangi exhibit was next, with 374 points, only a quarter of a point ahead of Mangapai. Wairua scored 363 points, and Mangakahia—a back-blocks area— . , . In the poultry sections championship awards were as follow:— Utility Black Orpington: Male, Mr. A. S. -Harden; female, Mrs. R. S. Higginbotham. Utility Silver Wyandotte: Male, Mr. .S. Purdon,: female, Mr. P. S. Carter. The following special awards were made LadieSf trophy, Mr. D.H. Rumball; best hen or pullet in fancy section, Mr. Rumball: best cock or cockerel in,' fancy section, Mr. Eumball; best old bird in the show, Mr. Rumball; buff bantam, Mr. G. Home; bantam, any .other variety, Mr W. G. Webster; Orpington, utility, Mrs. Higginbotham; White Leghorn, utility Mr. A. Cafler; Indian Runner drake, Mr W. P. Norton; Runner duck, Mr. Norton: duck or drake, any other variety, Mr. W. Beasly; hen or pullet in utility section except White Leghorn or Orpington, Mr. A. C. Yelland (Rhode Island Red); cock; Mr. Yelland; best cock or cockerel in amateur section, Mr. K. Love (Orpington); pullet, Mr. Rumball (Orpington). - The Kempthorne Prosser cup, for most points in-the - farm- section, was. won by Mr. Harden Hawken, and Messrs. R. and W. Hellabv's prize for the best sack of chaff, by Mr. B. P. Hawken. Messrs. Wilson and Horton's special prize for nine varieties of vegetables was won by A. Willcox._ Mr. E. Stremaine, of Ruatangata, scored most points in potatoes, in farm and garden produce and in the garden section, each carrying with it a I special prize. 1
