The following motion was also passed:•—" That this branch is hot satisfied with the pre- « sent salary scheme, and still presses for further consideration by ''the department ; , of the Kane-Hilton scheme." '%, f A difference of opinion was expressed regarding the site of ■" the propo'sed memorial to soldier teachers. The Management Committee recommended that the memorial should be in the form of' gates at the new Training College at Epsom. Another suggestion - put forward at the meeting was that the memorial to placed in pr near the proposed Memorial Museum at the Domain. It was finally decided that; the committee should ascertain the costof a suitable memorial at the Domain, and the cost of gates at i<he new Training College, the proposals to be submitted to a referendum of teachers. It was also decided that a further sum of money be raised for the memorial. The sum of £320 has already been subscribed. Inquiries' were made by the New Zealand Labour Partv regarding the provision of meals for children at the schools. ,The meeting approved of the following reply:—(l) That there was no evidence of bad or insufficient nutrition being general, only individual /• cases befing known; (2) that set meals (were not provided at/, schools, though the provision of cocoa was in most cases valued by the children; (3),. that the proposed scheme to supply one meal a day was impracticable and inadvisable. . , ' In a communication, the assistant masters expressed their disappointment' a.V the Education Board amending the regulations to allow certain ; teachers to continue in the service. after the age of 65 had been reached.
