Perkins, chairman of the Auckland Woolbrokers' Association, and Mrs. Perkins leave for Sydney by the Ulimaroa to-morrow. The Rev. G. W. Fenwick, of Ohakune, has been appointed vicar of Pahiatua. in succession to the Rev. E. Acheson Gillespie, who has resigned the charge. Mr. and Mrs. W. Angus, of Sydney, with their two daughters, arrived by the Ulimaroa yesterday on a visit to New Zealand. They are at the Central Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Greenslade 'and Miss Greenslade, of Dunedin, returned from a visit to Australia by the Ulimaroa yesterday. They are at the Grand Hotel. Sir Joseph and Lady Ward and their daughter, Mrs. B. B. Wood, returned to Auckland by tho Rotorua express yes. terday afternoon. They will leave " fop Wellington this evening. Mr. R. O. Sinclair was yesterday admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court by Mr. Justice Stringer, on the motion of Mr. J. H. R«yWn. Eis Honour congratulated Mr. Sinclair upon having passed his final LL.B. examination at the age of 20.
Mr. G. B. Hogan, chief traffic inspector, who has been on a visit to Australia, extending over seven weeks, returned from Sydney by the Ulimaroa yesterday. Mr, Hogan visited Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide, observing the methods employed in the control of street traffic.
Mr. 0. D. Hurrey, world's travelling secretary for the Student Christian Movement, arrived at Auckland by the Ulimaroa from Sydney yesterday. He will be met at luncheon to-day by members of the Auckland branch of the movement. After spending a, few days in Auckland Mr. Hurrey will visit the southern university colleges. He will proceed to America by the Makura on June 10,. .•
Mr. C. H. Backhoase, assistant secretary of the National Dairy Association, has been appointed secretary, in place of Mr. T. C. Brash, who has been appointed secretary of the New Zealand Dairy Export Control Board. The appointment will take effect from July 1, when Mr. Brash assumes his new duties. Mr. Backhouse has been for 14 years with the association, and was on active service for four years. Mr. T. Woodcock has been appointed assistant secretary.
Mr. O. E. Armstrong, engineer of the Public Works Department, Gisborne, had been notified that having completed over 40 years service with the department he is to be asked to retire on superannuation. The intimation is in accordance with the policy which has been adoptad .by the Government in regard to several 'departments, and is now, it is understood, to be applied to the staff of the Publio Works. Mr. i Armstrong has been associated with the department in Gisborne for 22 years. He went there at a time when numerous works, including the railway to Motuhora, were in contemplation, -so that many -of the larger < undertakings in the district have been carried out un-.
