WHEN THE FLEET SAILS.
DEMONSTRATION BY YACHTS.
FINE DISPLAY: EXPECTED.
AT LEAST 500 BOATS*
It is anticipated that when the Special Service Squadron sails out of Auckland Harbour on Saturday afternoon thero will be a demonstration of yachts and launches infinitely superior to that. which greeted the arrival of the fleet. The display 'of pleasure launches on the waters of the Waitemata on Saturday morning last was distinctly effective, and in addition to being a source of pride to the many thousands of citizens who lined the shores, it showed the extent to which the sea appeals to the young men of the city. It was estimated that 350 boats took part in the welcome, but many rrore were swinging at their moorings, largely because their crews were unable to get the necessary leave to join in the demonstration. This should not be the case on Saturday afternoon, and there seems no reason why at least 500 boats out of the 800 or 900 available should not accompany the ships of the squadron out to the Rangitoto Channel, when they set out on the next stage of the world cruise. The organisation of a fitting demonstration has again been taken in hand by the Auckland Yacht and Motor-boat Association, and arrangements similar to those worked out for the reception of the fleet have been drawn up. All yachts and launches taking part will be required to keep inshore of the five-fathom line,- and at all times at least 500 ft. from the Hood. The six launches detailed for patrol duty and vested with the necessary authority last Saturday have again been assigned their duties, and yachtsmen are asked to co-operate.
