The Auckland Harbour Board ' met yes terday, the chairman, Mr. H. R." Mackenzie, presiding. There were also present, Messrs. W. Wallace, T. B. Clay, W. F. McAlium, E. W. Inder, T. Bloodworth, C- G. Macindoe, E. ,J. Caxr, A. M. Laing, J. B. Teasdale, G. .Parr, and M. H. Wynyard. ~ - . The complete covering-in of the roadways on Prince's Wharf was recommended by the traffic manager. Verandahs were not entirely. satisfactory. It was decided to defer the i%atter for 12 months.- -The chairman said that . the suggested work would cost the board £1&»000, which would not be warranted. - * ' '
The shipping - returns for tho Port of Auckland for April i showed that the arrivals consisted of two warships, two Royal Mail steamersj 17 large cargo steamers, 13 intercolonial or Island traders, "'2O coastal steamers, and two sailing vessels. Ui? With 637 local coastal vessels, the grand 1 total wag 693 "vessels, of - 328,086• gross tons. Compared with the corresponding period for last year the large shipping showed a decrease of four vessels, of 17,409 gross tons. .
Arrivals at Onehunga for the month were reported to be 24 .vessels, \Vith an flgsu-c K ate ; of 15,070 gross tons, Compared with April, 1923, a decrease of .four vessels, of 903; gross tons, was shown. > The receipts ■ for April 1 for Waitemata Harbour were stated by the treasurer to be £26,534, which was £250 less than.the total for April, 1923. For the four months ended April 30, the receipts were £107,397, 0r.£9154 in excess of those for the corresponding; period of 1923. The increase for. the four • months at Manukau . Harbour was £251. The April receipts were £445, an increase of £42 over those for April of last. year. ' , The annual meeting of the board will be held on Tuesday, May 27.
