WATERLOO BRIDGE CLOSED. A. and N.Z. LONDON, May 11. Owing to rain, Waterloo Bridge, over which 9000 vehicles pass daily, will be closed at midnight. • The' announcement has caused surprise, although it was known that the centre arch was defective and subsiding. Divers who are investigating . hope it may be possible to reopen the bridge for light • traffic • shortly if the present' strengthening of the foundations is successful. Thereafter extensive : reconstruction will be necessary. - j
