BREAKING A STRIKE.
TEAR GAS AND GUNS. A. and N.Z. NEW YORK. May 11. The Mayor of Pittsburgh, Mr. William Magee, .to-night formally demanded that the Pittsburgh Railway Company restore the tram service, stopped by the striking of 3200 motormen and conductors, at the earliest possible moment with whatever labour is available. - They will be afforded police protection. The City Council passed an emergency ordinance creating a fund/ for the purchase of tear gas equipment and riot guns. The worst traffic jam in the history of the city resulted from the strike.
