Captain Kneen Kerruish, , : has passed away at Auckland, at the age of 99 years: For tha , past 15 years Captain Kerruish had lived in retirement at New Lynn. Ho was born at the Isle of Man, and took* up a seafaring life as a youth. His first visit to New Zealand was made about 75 years " ego, when he was so impressed with : the : natural . beauty and the i climate of Auckland ' }bat he expressed the hope that he would end his days here. Subsequently he became a master mariner ' - and traded between the Isle of : Man »nd En gland ' for many years. ,; Captain Ker- ' ruish - was !in Victoria/ Australia, yat toe time - of the great financial diwier in 1893, and lost hie life's saving*/ In 1603 he sustained ; further financial low as ~ the result of an anstiooessful attempt to inaugurate a. small fishing fleet j- with head-; quarters at Auckland. .:../ - Captain Kerruish belonged to a family ; remarkable for longevity.
