The possibility of a number of' the officers now at Auckland with the Specal Service Squadron returning to New Zealand for the purpose of settling on the land .when their .period of service withthe ; Navy ends was indicated by the Prime Minister, Mr. , W. F. . Massey, .in the course of his address.at the opening of' the Prince's Wharf yesterday. Mr. Massey said the officers of the Navy present were distinguished members of the service and he hoped that when the time came for them to retire they would . want to go on the land. If -so, they would be welcome in New Zealand. He did not think he was giving anything away when he said that some of the officers had consulted him abouft settling on the land.': He had readily discussed the matter with them - and had shown them it would be made as easy as possible for them •to . do so. ■ ;- " They are the type of men we want," said Mr. Massey, amid applause. - •' I do not . want these men to run away from the Navy, but to remain in tho .service fan til their terms expire. It is our duty to keep this country British and I would like tc see them come out here and help us to build up a better and brighter Britain in the years to come.'';.
