.■' ' . •;"; ■■ .... '. ' — -*>•. '.;, ——— i• " \ - AN ENJOYABLE MEET. ; A good afternoon's sport rewarded those followers of .the.; Pakuranga Hunt, who, despite the inclement < weather, .ventured out to the meet of the • hounds at Pakuranga Hill on Saturday. ,In fact, although many enthusiasts had to face very uninviting weather conditions while on the road to the meet, the afternoon turned quite fair and only one heavy shower fell during the progress of the hunt.: ' The country was in remarkably fine order for good going. Hares were plentiful, but scent could have been better. - -i ■:;, , When huntsman and j hounds :; >" moved off from the meet a good number of followers had put in an appearance, ; and others arrived later notably Lady Jellicoe 'and party from Government House, who, although very busily .engaged until quite late on the occasion of the arrival of the Special Service Squadron," nevertheless contrived to arrive in time to participate in a considerable portion of the afternoon's sport. : -v';: \j .;■; it •>' ..v.>/.- ~-; Hounds were first thrown off; on' Mr. R. Hattaway's land;'; and crossing the road bore ; away through a further portion of Mr. Hattaway's farm' and so on to Mr. Fred Roberts' property, and then again across, the road higher up and on to another part of Mr. Roberts' farm. Leaving this, hounds ran through a piece •of ground barred to followers,; who had to take the nearest cut to the roadway. "[ Scent seemed to fail hereabouts and hounds did not. pick up the line again. Further casts were made on Mr. Thompson's farm, and during the afternoon hounds put up- - a number of hares, 'and ran over the abovementioned farms again and were at. one time also on Butley, which is now Mr. Gill's farm. Although no kills were recorded good displays of hound "work 1 , were observed, arid plenty of sport in negotiating the fences was provided for'the L followers.- "=:,;) : .K>: ',:!■..;::,:• ~i'^! ■;."
