The judge said that the winning piece (which was specially written for Miss Hall by Mr. J. Youlin Birch, of Auckland) was a fine composition, and had .been ably interpreted by Miss Hall, 'i who showed nice poise and an absence of unnecessary gesture. Mrs. Bullock's ! composition was one of beauty and pathos, with artistry of description, and she was to be congratulated; upon the poem and her performance.. It was just lacking in light and shade.
