Northcote Orphans* Club, held. '// in the Masonic Hall, Northcote, on Satur- ; day evening, was largely attended, / and , proved' a most 'Successful and enjoyable i function.. The president of the Auckland Orphans' Club," Mr. T.U. Wells, who was accompanied fby the vice-president, Mr. W. Wallace, and '<-. several/ members of the . executive of "■■' the parent';. club, installed ' /; ; Mr. A. -M. Pickford as the first .president - -=: of the/new club, which'started with 102 members, arid an orchestra 25 strong.. Mr. ■ Wells also mvested the president with the ~ . insignia of friiat office, a donation from the i Auckland Orphans' Club. The chairman's : ■■ 6°Sj '■'■ -given 'by ; the Otahuhu Orphans' * - -.- Club, was presented by itfi president, Mr. A, 1 !' Murdoch,, who i/was supported by the ' vice-president, and /committee of / 'that / : unit. The gavel, the donor of which was - r the /DistiUess;/- Company, Limited, was : handed to the club by Mr. J. W. Lethbridge. , The ? initial effort of the orchestra, under . i ; the /baton of ! Mr. A. W„ Messenger, gave promise of ; a very efficient combination. The programme, which ;. was greatly appreciated/ comprised humorous litems by Mr. vAUarijMcElwain/-sorigs/;by Messrs. S. . Pritchard,/A; Ripley, J. Ryan and A. C.
