CARGO FOR AUCKLAND.
>■ " " O* - I .! ■' SOUTHERN PRODUCE COMING DELAYED BY* . THE STRIKE. AMPLE SPACE THIS WEEK. [BX TBLEOBAPH. —OWX COnBESPOJTDEUT.3 v,-: : CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday. During the railway strike considerable quantities of produce and other goods ior # Auckland were held up at Lyttolton. As soon as the strike ended there was a rush to get freight space for the northern port, but as the ' running of coastal steamers of the. Union Steam Ship Company had been disorganised, it was impossible for them immediately to send to ttelton all the vessels that - were wanted. However, the Union Company did its best, and this week there should be no difficulty for Christchurch business men in obtaining space for goods that are to be shipped to Auckland.'■;"; One merchant stated yesterday that he would probably not be able to fill all the space that had been offered to him for shipment to Auckland. The Union Company has arranged for the Wingatui, Navua, and Kaitangata to sail from Lyttelton next week. These boats will more than clear all cargo that is offering at present. Mr. W. H. Price, Christchurch manager for the _ Union Company, stated yesterday that this week there would be plenty of freight space for Auckland— fact he expected that in about ten days' time his company would be looking for cargo. He said that now there was no wheat to be sent to Auckland, and while consignments of oats were practically negligible, as far as produce was i concerned, the main line was potatoes, and, in his opinion, these were not likely to last very long.
