LOADS ON BICYCLES
"LIKE A CARRIER'S CART." . '.'There is a tendency in Christchurch to turn the bicycle into a carrier's cart," said Mr. H. Thompson, daring the hearing of the plumbers' dispute before a conciliation council meeting last week. "Carriers ;. have been fixed on the back of the machines, and it is not uncommon to see a man with a gas-stove strapped on the carrier, a few lengths of piping on his shoulder, and his % tools and gear stowed about other parts of- the machine. The worst of it is, some of the employers introduce "a: sort of competition among the men, and because \ one man is prepared to load himself up like this, all the others are expected to do it."*
