LORRY IN SHOP WINDOW
; QUEEN STREET ACCIDENT. SKID AFTER ; STRIKING ZONE VERANDAH ALSO DAMAGED. • A startling accident occurred in Queen Street at about- 11 p.m; i: on- Saturday, when a,' motor-lorry struck the safety zone at the foot of Wyndham Street, Swerved on the greasy , road, mounted the pavement, and,? after bringing down a stout iron verandah post; ran into the side window of the shop of Messrs. J. and S. Hopkins, Ltd., florists , and nurserymen. A number of people were about at thei time, but, fortunately, no one was injured. > j- ■■} ■ '''"■>■< - '■'— : . ; "- "■'■.■*■![' ; The lorry, which was going up Queen Street at about five miles an hour, was driven by Mr. Henry Taylor, a carrier, of Moa Road, Point>Chevalier.-, He stated that, owing to the rain, his vision was so obscured that he did not see the zone till he was right on top of it. The owners were informed- of the mishap by the police, and the latter remained in charge of the wrecked shop front during the night. ;' ■?■'■",'
