'full time SERVICE SCHEME:
v A new proposal relating to public health affairs ;in the .four / centres has been made by the Department of Health. (1): The cities of Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch . and Dunedin be . constituted separate health districts. •f. (2) The medical ; officers of health appointed for these districts to . confine themselves wholly to the city areas. ' (3) The medical officer _of health for these areas to be" primarily responsible to the local' authority and only secondarily to ; the department for the props; administration of the Health Act and regulations thereunder. ' _ . (4) The local authority in return for the special services afforded to pay onehalf of the salary of the medical officer of health. : ■/. . ' The department has been authorised to appoint three additional officers, so it is considered that the time 13 opportune for a change such as suggested. -. ,
