AMERICAN EXCLUSION. LETTER TO THE PRESIDENT. POSTPONEMENT REQUESTED By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright A. and N.Z. TOKIO, April 27. The president of the America-Japan Society, M. Kaneko, has ,sent . a letter to the State Department of the United States for the "consideration of the President, Mr. Calvin Coolidge, appealing against the proposed immigration discrimination. We understand the necessity for restricting the number of alien immigrants into America for the nation's welfare, he says, and we are willing to submit to any restrictions if equally applied. We ask for consideration of the discriminatory clause in the Immigration Act which is an important question affecting Japanese honour. M. Kaneko requests the temporary postponement of the passage of the measure to"' enable*"- the finding of a reasonable solution of the problem that will be satisfactory to both countries.
