SUPPLIES OF PETROL.
SATISFACTORY POSITION. i PURCHASES BEFORE RISE. With so much petrol and benona now 4 being used for road transport, the ques- - tion of supplies is naturally one of 5 ■ moment. Inquiries made yesterday show . ■ that the strike is not expected to make 4 much difference to the position. It was stated that prior to the recent rise in price most of the garage and vehicle owners laid m stocks well in excess of their : usual purchases, and it is upon these •3] stocks that tha present work is being done, ° j One spirit distributing company is re- 5 ported to have handled 12,000 cases in a M week, whereas that number would usually be its output for a month Petrol stocks in • Auckland are quite satisfactory, and that apparently is the ® position throughout the Dominion. When the present _ supplies of motor-vehicle ; :|? owners are finished there will no doubt IS an enhanced demand, and . one • authority stated that he anticipated a 50 per cent, increase. This greater demand 7/ can, it is felt, be easily met provided fM there is .no dislocation of the supplies arriving from overseas. The bulk $;thei!§ motor spirit used in the Dominion comes iSi from America, but a quantity is also im- v !: ported from the East.
