DEFENCE OF REPUBLIC.

PRECAUTIONS IN GREECE. CABINET ISSUES DECREE. ALL ATTACKS FORBIDDEN. By Telegraph Press Association Copyright. (Received 7.35 p.m.) A. and N.Z. LONDON. April 23. The Athens correspondent of the Daily Telegraph states that the Greek Cabinet has approved a decree for the defence of the Republican regime for ten years. This forbids any attack on the Republic either by word or in writing. The decree also prohibits the questioning of the validity of the recent plebiscite to determine the form of future government of the country, discussion on the fallen dynasty, or propaganda calculated to dissuade citizens from fulfilling their duties to the country, especially as regards military service. The penalties for disobedience of the decree are fines, or temporary or permanent banishment. Both the Republicans and the Royalists sharply criticise the decree, i They contend that the existing laws provide adequate protection for th© Republic. The Premier replies that the decree is only a precautionary measure, and will not be rigorously applied. 1
