WIDE RANGE OF WORK. - *■ . < ' Building activity in the matter of the erection of large warehouses and factories briskly continues. The erection of a threestoreyed reinforced concrete building in Quay Street, to cost sonJe thousands of pounds, is projected. Plans for the new building have been . drawn by Messrs. Chilwell and Trevithick, and tenders for the work will be called shortly. The Royal ' Exchange Assurance Cooperative Company intends to erect a new building in O'Conuell Street, a portion of, the city area that has shown an unwonted activity during the past year or fo. The new structure will comprise four floors and basement, and the ground floor and a, portion of the basement will "be occupied by the Assurance Company, the remaining part of the building being let as offices. The offices on the ground floor will be panelled in oak. The construction of- dwelling houses continues on an extensive scale. The portion of Svmonds Street, 1 opposite East Street, which was recently cleared and roaded L shape road running in from Symonds Street and over-horderfng the cemetery reserveis already being built upon. The framework of at least one large and commodious two-storeyed bungalow is visible from the mam thoroughfare, and it is anticipated that other residences in keeping with the nature of the locality, will shortly be erected. This area, being secluded and yet handy to the centre of the city's activities, promises to become one of the most attractive residential portions of the city, having for the most part harbour views that cannot be built out. The building of shop properties has apparently slackened off somewhat at the Dominion Bead terminus. However, two more new. two-storeyed brick shops are under course of erection, while at other points along this length}' thoroughfare good progress is being maintained with the erection of those already under construction. v A new and fine addition to Cook Street is the recently completed and occupied three-storey warehouse of the United States Rubber Company. Lower down work has been commenced on the erection of a large brick factory opposite the site j of the old salt water baths.
