OBITUARY.
MAORI WAR VETERAN. MR. GEORGE C. DENNIS. A Maori war veteran, Mr. George Chittick Dennis, passed away at his residence, Pukapuka, Puhoi, on Good Friday.* Mr. Dennis, who was in his 84th year, cams to New Zealand in 1865 with the 12th Regiment, with which he fought, throughout the Maori war } taking part in the engagements at Ngaruawahia and Rangiriri. When the regiment returned to England, Mr. Dennis, realising the possibilities of life in a new count:y, remained in New Zealand. . He was for many years goldmining at Thames, afterwards engaging in fanning near Puhoi. Both at Thames and Puhoi, Mr. Dennis took -an ' enthusiastic interest in. defence matters, being, a keen supporter of ' the volunteer movement. Ho is survived by Mrs. Dennis, four sons, and two daughters, besides tweuty-threa grandchildren - and three great-grand-children.
