STRUCK BY A TRAIN.
MAORI INJURED AT THAMES. RESCUED FROM COWCATCHER [BY. TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT.] THAMES. Monday. A Maori man, Nuka Meremana, was severely injured last evening through being struck by a train near the Thames South station. It is not known how he came to be on the line. The fireman saw a man's body on the cowcatcher, and the train was promptly brought to a standstill. The injured man was placed in the guard's van, taken to the Thames South station, and conveyed to the hospital, where he was found to have several ribs broken, in addition to which his right hand was badly mutilated, the thumb and three fingers being completely severed. He is a married, man residing at Parawai, with his wife and six children. It is expected that the man will recover.
